How BranchAI works
Short, plain answers to the questions we hear most. If anything is still unclear, we’d genuinely like to hear about it.
How do I sign in?
With Google - there’s no password to remember. If your school uses BranchAI, choose your school Google account when Google asks which account to use: that’s how BranchAI knows which school you’re at. A personal Google account signs you in too, but not to your school. Signed in with the wrong one? Sign out and sign in again, and Google will ask again.
I’m a student. How do I join my school?
You don’t need to do anything. Your school adds you, and the first time you sign in with your school Google account you’re in. Anything a teacher gives you appears in your documents. Your name is the one your school has on record, so if it’s wrong, ask your school to change it.
I’m staff. How do I get access?
If an admin at your school has added you, sign in with your school Google account and you’re in. If not, sign in with that account and enter your school’s staff code when you’re asked for it - an admin at your school can give it to you. That sends a request, and once an admin approves it, Classes appears in the menu. Nobody emails you when that happens. If you closed that screen, it’s on the join page.
What does a school admin do?
Runs BranchAI for the school, from School in the menu: adds staff and students, approves staff who ask to join, gives out the staff code and makes a new one if it gets out, and appoints other admins. A school should have at least two, because an admin can’t remove themselves or change their own role.
What files can I upload?
PDFs, photos (JPG or PNG) and Word documents, up to 4 MB each and about 14 pages. Photos of a page work too - even slightly wonky ones. PowerPoint isn't supported yet: save the slides as a PDF first. For anything longer, upload it a chapter or section at a time. No file? Choose Paste text and paste your notes straight in. BranchAI reads the document and rebuilds it as calm, colour-coded study cards.
How long does a document take?
Usually under a minute or two. You can leave the page and come back - the document keeps working in the background. If something goes wrong it shows a clear “Failed” state with a retry button, never an endless loading screen.
What do the tile colours mean?
Each highlighted word is a tile you can tap: lavender for key words, orange for supporting ideas, red for advanced detail, and teal for steps. Every tile opens with the word broken into syllables and a plain-English explanation.
Will my reading settings follow me?
Yes. Font, text size, spacing and paper colour are saved to your account, so the setup that works at home is waiting for you on the school computer. You can change them any time from the reading bar or the settings page.
How does read-aloud work?
Press play on any study card and BranchAI reads it to you in a natural Irish voice, highlighting as it goes. It works on quizzes and tile explanations too.
What are the quizzes for?
Short check-ins woven into your notes - a question, a tap, and a plain explanation of why the answer is right. They're for confidence, not grades: nothing is scored against anyone else.
Is my work private?
Yes. Your documents are yours alone - nobody else can see them, and they are never used to train AI models. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
