We build for one reader.
BranchAI turns dense documents into calm, colour-coded study notes for students with dyslexia. Not a general study tool with an accessibility setting bolted on. A reading surface designed around one group of readers, and measured against how well it serves them.

Why we built it
Support is stretched, and reading is where it shows.
With an ever-growing number of students with additional educational needs (AEN) in our secondary schools, there is a strain on the provision of support. Students with AEN deserve to be taught in a way which addresses their needs.
We asked students what reading actually feels like before we built anything. Their answers were not about comprehension. They were about cost.

Our approach
Not a mode, not a feature.
Most software treats dyslexia as a toggle. A font swap, a background colour, a setting buried three menus deep. BranchAI starts from the opposite end: the warm low-glare page, the adjustable letter and word spacing, the colour taxonomy, and the tap-to-decode vocabulary are the product, not an accommodation layer sitting on top of one.
I particularly like the words that are highlighted… highlighting bigger words or more difficult words can really help.
The clean dyslexia first design is a real point of difference, limiting distractions.
What it does not do
A scaffold, not a substitute.
BranchAI does not answer the question for the student. It shows how a text is built, which words are load-bearing, and where the evidence sits. The reading, the judgement and the conclusion stay with the reader. That line is the one we are least willing to move.
BranchAI identifies the organisational structure of the text but does not formulate conclusions on behalf of the student. … In educational terms, the technology functions as a scaffold rather than a substitute for critical thinking.

Zorzi and colleagues found that simply increasing the spacing between letters improved reading speed for dyslexic children and roughly halved their reading errors, with no training and no practice beforehand. It is one of the clearest results in the field, and it is not a preference setting to us. Letter spacing and word spacing are controls every BranchAI reader can adjust on the page they are reading, and the setting follows them to every other document they open.

For schools
How we handle student data.
When a school uses BranchAI, the school is the data controller and we act as its processor for that student data. Access is enforced in the database itself rather than by application code, so a student sees only their own documents and staff see only their own school. We name every third party that touches the data, and what each one does with it, in our privacy policy.
